VILLYY - SUGACOAT (FEAT. SMURKE) [81%]

“Sugacoat”, a Hidden Gem with Street Authenticity

Villyy's latest track, "Sugacoat" featuring Smurke and produced by Jay Young, arrives with a raw, unapologetic energy. The absence of elaborate promotional efforts and a mysterious YouTube description paradoxically adds to the track's allure, giving it a sense of discovered treasure.

Hailing from South London, Villyy takes a sharp turn from his previous collaboration with producer Baby Cashy in "Sup Mate". This track embodies a mellower, club-oriented vibe, providing a perfect canvas for Villyy to shine. Smurke’s contribution seamlessly blends with the song, breaking up its arrangement and enhancing its overall impact.

Lyrically, Villyy dives into the daily grind of the trap life, emphasising his swift moves and dismissing those who merely talk without experience. His hooks are catchy and smooth, drawing listeners into his world. Smurke echoes similar sentiments, questioning the authenticity of others in the game and detailing his own experiences.

The music video, shot entirely at night, displays brilliant cinematography. From cinematic shots inside the car to wide angles of the moving vehicle, the visuals are captivating. The narrative, however, gets a bit muddled during a scene involving a duffle bag exchange, leaving viewers slightly confused.

The beat pulsates with moody infectiousness, setting the track's tone. Unfortunately, the mixing falls short; vocals are drowned out, overshadowed by an overly loud ride cymbal, disrupting the overall balance.

Despite the mixing flaw, "Sugacoat" stands out for its genuine street narrative, powerful performances, and compelling visuals. Villyy and Smurke's chemistry adds depth to the track, making it a compelling addition to the UK underground scene.
